An empirical review of software process assessments

چکیده
In the recent past there has been a rapid increase in the use of process assessments in the software industry. Such assessments play an important role in initiating and tracking process improvements. In addition, there has been a proliferation of best practice models that are the basis for the assessments. The purpose of this chapter is to review the empirical evidence that exists to date on the efficacy of process assessments, with a specific focus on the CMM for software and the emerging ISO/IEC 15504 international standard. The available evidence is quite extensive, and supports the claims that assessments can be an effective tool for process improvement. We also highlight gaps in the literature where further work needs to be done. 1 ® CMM and Capability Maturity Model are registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. SPICE: An Empiricist's Perspective
The SPICE project aims to deliver an international standard for software process assessment by the end of 1996. As part of this project there is an empirical trials phase whose purpose is to ascertain the effectiveness of the prospective SPICE standard. Two of the objectives of the trials phase are: (a) to determine the extent to which SPICEconformant assessments are repeatable (i.e., reliabili...
متن کاملAn empirical evaluation of the ISO/IEC 15504 assessment model
The emerging International Standard ISO/IEC 15504 (Software Process Assessment) includes an exemplar assessment model (known as Part 5). Thus far, the majority of users of ISO/IEC 15504 employ the exemplar model as the basis for their assessments. This paper describes an empirical evaluation of the exemplar model. Questionnaire data was collected from the lead assessors of 57 assessments world-...
متن کاملThe Applying ISM/FANP Approach for Appropriate Location Selection of Health Centers
The main purpose of this paper is to present a fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (FMADM) model for appropriate location selection of a health center. Therefore, we identify sixteen criteria and sub-criteria for selecting a health center location. These criteria and sub-criteria have been obtained from literature reviews and practical interviews. This paper proposes a method which combines th...
متن کاملBenchmarking Kappa for Software Process Assessment Reliability Studies
Software process assessments are by now a prevalent tool for process improvement and contract risk assessment in the software industry. Given that scores are assigned to processes during an assessment, a process assessment can be considered a subjective measurement procedure. As with any subjective measurement procedure, the reliability of process assessments has important implications on the u...
متن کاملImplications of Cointegration for Forecasting: A Review and an Empirical Analysis
Cointegration has different theoretical implications for forecasting. Several empirical studies have compared the out of sample forecasting performance of cointegrted VECMs against unrestricted VARs in levels and in differences. The results of these studies have been generally mixed and inconclusive. This paper provides a comprehensive review over the subject, and also examines the effects...
